The Department of Physics at FIU, in partnership with FIU's STEM Transformation Institute, has been a major innovator in the teaching of physics and the recruitment of physics majors and future physics teachers, with large annual enrollments of the Modeling Physics curriculum. The Department is a PhysTEC Legacy site and recently began FIUTeach, a major STEM teacher preparation initiative. These efforts, as well as FIU's position as Miami-Dade's public, 4-year research university has resulted in significant success in recruiting, mentoring, and retaining Hispanic-identified students in physics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department hosts a range of active research programs, including astronomy, AMO physics, biophysics, condensed matter physics, experimental nuclear physics and nuclear theory, neuroimaging and medical physics, plasma physics, particle physics and physics education research.
