The Department of Physics and Astronomy at BGSU is very pleased to be a Partnership Institution with the APS Bridge Program. We are a mid-sized department with 14 faculty and about two dozen M.S. and Ph.D. students. The department offers an M.S. degree, but the department includes students from the Ph.D. program in BGSU's Center for Photochemical Sciences. Our students can also transition into our cooperative Ph.D. program with The University of Toledo. Most of our M.S. graduates enter Ph.D. programs at other institutions.

We strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment with the primary goal of providing students with excellent preparation in courses and research experience to move into Ph.D. programs. Strong research programs in the department focus on materials science, computational physics, and astronomy. Our rigorous core courses are at a high level, and in most cases our graduates entering Ph.D. programs can receive credit for the courses they have taken at Bowling Green. For students who may need additional preparation before taking the graduate courses, undergraduate courses can be taken to gain additional background.
